The Silly Goose Story
Hi, my name is Isaiah Carrington (he/they) but most people just call me Izzy. I am a mixed race (black and white), have AuDHD and at my core, I'm just a silly little guy.
I spent most of my life feeling disconnected from the world. Like I was slightly out of sync with everyone, like everyone understood things that came difficult to me. As a kid, my mom told me I was an alien she found in the dumpster and HONESTLY? that felt more accurate at times than being related to even my own family. In other words, I was the ugly duckling of my family.
But, over time, I decided that instead of an ugly duckling, I'd grow up to be a silly goose and spread my sense of joy, whimsy and love for life with the world.
At 15 years old, I went to an event called Operation Snowball and it completely changed my life. It was the very first time in my life that I felt accepted and even cherished for all of my quirks. Then I saw a someone get on stage, tell a story about their life (get paid to do so) and it was an act of bravery that inspired me.
Because I went 30 years without being diagnosed for my autism and ADHD, I inadvertently chose the most difficult dream to pursue: being a motivational speaker, telling other people how they can be like me. A silly goose living out their dreams. So, how did I do it? That's what I will be answering here in Silly Goose Society.
As I take this journey in unmasking myself, I hope that the lessons I post here will resonate with any of you out there who felt any bit of how I did. Welcome to Silly Goose Society.
